Contains the “Certissima methodus, qua homines palantes … ad beatitudinem consequendam promovendi veniant”, “Epistola, qua omnes abditae artes … perstringuntur et perfectissima ratio prophetandi … traditur” and “Oratio de instauranda Romanae ecclesiae doctrina.” — “This gifted and educated man was led to fraud and falsification of documents by his vanity and presumption and finally subjected to severe condemnation. When he was barely 41 years old, he ended up in poverty and misery, and after his death he was buried in the Carmelite church of the old city of Danzig. 25 printed writings by him are known, some earlier ones written against the papacy and some later ones in support of it, some others concerning his own personal affairs.” (Theodor Elze, in ADB 34, p. 443f, transl.). — Blind stamped pigskin of the time over wooden boards. Ex-library book with stamp inside and catalogue no. on spine. Covers somewhat rubbed, stained and bumped. Binding and outer spine slightly worm-streaked in some places. Mirror and endpapers slightly torn. A few handwritten markings in the text. Pages occasionally a little waterstained. Type area in very good condition. Also bound within this volume is a fragment of the “Primi tomi miiscellaneorum, de rerum causis & successibus atque” published in the same year (VD16 J 287). Of this text only the first 5 leaves are attached, the rest was detached improperly and is missing. The rear book joint was damaged in the process. atx 8°Philos5
